Forbidden Materials:
Fiberglass resins and Plastic Epoxies

Cardboard that has been factory coated

Plastic cardboard- such as outdoor signs or foam board

Building Rules:
Boats must be made entirely of corrugated cardboard (no more than 3 layers thick). Cardboard cannot be sealed with any paint or sealants. Absolutely, NO use of the following items: metal, wood, Styrofoam, plastic, paint, tar-based substances, two-part varnishes, fiberglass resin, epoxy glue, any other two-part substances, or corrugated cardboard that is bond to any material.
You cannot wrap the entire boat with plastic or duct tape or any similar tape or wrap. Duck tape can only be used at the seams and stress points. However, you are allowed to reinforce all seams and stress points. Reinforcement may not extend more than 2 inches on either side of the seam or stress points.
Contestants are not allowed to use any substance which might be harmful to the environment. Contestants should take care to ensure that the construction of your boat does not include pointed projections and sharp edges that might cause personal injury.
Boats may not exceed 8 feet in length and 5 feet in width.
The boat’s passenger(s) must not be enclosed above the occupant’s shoulders, so not to interfere with escape.
Boats must be completely enclosed or permit the crew to remain fully on top of the vessel (no dangling extremities) Rafts are not allowed. Swimming on a cardboard surfboard is not allowed.
Boats must be propelled by cardboard paddles, which must meet the same construction requirements as the boats. (No hands, feet, flippers, etc.)
All boats will be inspected at check-in and judges reserve the right to disqualify boats for violation(s) of the above rules.
Boat design is left to the builders. Let your imagination take over. Make your boat look like a car, flying saucer, dragon, etc. Decoration may not aid in flotation.
Race Rules:
All competitors must attend a pre-race safety meeting.
Teams consist of 2 to 4 members; Each entry must have at least 1 person in the boat during race, maximum of 2 people.
All passenger(s) MUST be able to swim. A swim test may be requested at any time.
All passenger(s) MUST wear bathing suits, NO street clothes.
Boats and team members may not intentionally interfere with any other team or boat. Overly aggressive conduct and/or un-sportsmen like conduct will not be tolerated and will result in immediate disqualification.
Depending on the number of participants, multiple heats may be necessary.
This is a timed race. The winner will be determined by the fastest speed across all heats.
Competitors must remain in the boat all the way to the finish to complete the race. If you or your team member exit the boat before reaching the finish line, you will be disqualified.
Competitors must be sitting or kneeling in the boat. Lying on your back or stomach is not allowed.
When your race is finished, the team must remove the boat and any left-over cardboard or debris from the pool and dispose of it in the designated area.
